Prescription Terms

Abbreviations and values you'll see on any Malaysian optometrist's eyeglass prescription. These are standardised across the industry — 100glasses accepts prescriptions written in this format.

SPH (Sphere)a.k.a. Spherea.k.a. Spherical Power
The lens power correcting overall nearsightedness (negative values, e.g. -2.00) or farsightedness (positive values, e.g. +1.50), measured in diopters. Every eyeglass prescription has an SPH value for each eye, even if the value is 0.
CYL (Cylinder)a.k.a. Cylindera.k.a. Cylindrical Power
The lens power correcting astigmatism (uneven corneal curvature), measured in diopters. Leave blank or enter 0 if no astigmatism. Whenever CYL has a non-zero value, an AXIS value must also be specified.
AXIS
The angle between 0° and 180° specifying the orientation of the cylindrical (CYL) correction on the lens. Required whenever CYL has a non-zero value. A prescription of 'CYL -0.75 AXIS 180' means the astigmatism correction is aligned horizontally across the lens.
PD (Pupillary Distance)a.k.a. Pupillary Distancea.k.a. Interpupillary Distance
The distance in millimetres between the centres of your pupils. Used to align the optical centre of each lens with your eye. Adult PD typically ranges from 54 to 68 mm. Can be a single binocular value (e.g. 62) or split into monocular values for each eye (e.g. 31/31).
ADD (Addition)a.k.a. Near Additiona.k.a. Reading Addition
The extra near-vision power added to the bottom portion of multifocal or progressive lenses, measured in diopters (usually +0.75 to +3.00). Only required when ordering Multifocal or Progressive lens types at 100glasses — ignore this field for Single Vision.
OD / OSa.k.a. ODa.k.a. OSa.k.a. Right Eye / Left Eyea.k.a. R / L
OD (Oculus Dexter) is the right eye. OS (Oculus Sinister) is the left eye. These labels appear on every prescription to distinguish the per-eye values for SPH, CYL, AXIS, and ADD. At 100glasses checkout these are labelled 'Right Eye' and 'Left Eye' for clarity.

Lens Types

The three lens-type options offered at 100glasses Malaysia. Determines how many vision zones the lens provides.

Progressivea.k.a. No-Line Multifocala.k.a. Varifocal
Multi-zone lenses with a seamless gradient between distance, intermediate, and near vision — no visible line. RM199 upgrade at 100glasses. Requires an ADD value. Lead time 7–10 working days due to the specialised grinding process.
